Description

Vineyard

Vinha do Taco, was planted in 2001, and is one of the finest examples of dryland viticulture in Tapada de Coelheiros At an altitude of approximately 280 meters, and at the foot of the Taco slope, it benefits from a predominantly southern exposure to the sun. This vineyard has the particularity of being surrounded by a dense forest of cork oaks and holm oaks, as well as two water lines, including proximity to the Arraiolos stream. This strategic location has resulted in alluvial deposits, giving the surface soil a texture that ranges from sandy-clayey to sandy-silty. In depth, there is a layer with a gravelly texture, facilitating drainage and promoting root development. The soils are of granitic origin, and the grape variety is Petit Verdot, sourced from massal selection. The plot area is 1ha. The organic matter content is very low (<1%), and the training system is bilateral cordon. In Organic Farming since 2017.

Winemaking

The grapes were hand-harvested in 25kg boxes and transported to the winery, where they were destemmed. The alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 26–27°C. The malolactic fermentation occurred naturally in stainless steel tanks, and then it was transferred to barrels, where it remained for 18 months.

Winetasting

Deep color. On the nose, it shows complexity, highlighting cassis, and hints of moss. On the palate, it reveals robustness, offering a velvety texture. The tannins are firm, integrating well with the acidity. The palate is generous in the intensity of black fruit, dark chocolate, and an earthy touch that lingers into a long and memorable finish.
