OUR WINES

Coelheiros' image transcribes its connection to the territory, origins and traditions. Inspired by the art of the Arraiolos' embroidery, it evokes the uniqueness of each block and each grape variety, and the way they are meticulously crafted, stitch by stitch, yet always integrated in their whole, in a perfect symbiosis with nature. Synonymous with consistency and endurance, this centenary art expresses the distinctive profile of our wines: wines with longevity that evolve with time.

Coelheiros WHITE

Coelheiros WHITE

FRESH ALENTEJO

Made from Arinto planted in Vinha do Alto, a variety that is well adapted to our granitic soils. The grapes are harvested manually to preserve its freshness and aromatic intensity. Its captivating acidity makes it a gastronomic and versatile wine, revealing a good aging potential.

VINIFICATION

50% of the wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel to highlight its citric fruit while the other 50% is fermented and aged in 500L used barrels and foudres. Bâtonnage is done during a six months period to intensify its richness and texture.
AROMA AND PALATE

FRESH ALENTEJO

Coelheiros red reveals the vigorous character of Alicante Bouschet while presenting the silky texture and density of Touriga Nacional.

TERROIR

The grapes come from the emblematic Vinha do Taco and Vinha da Sobreira. These vineyards are non-irrigated, and therefore have profound root systems which allows for a good maturation of the grapes.

VINIFICATION

Fermented with indigenous yeasts to best express our vineyards and soils. Aged for one year in used barrels.

AROMA AND PALATE

The nose reveals red fruit aromas with slight notes of spices and smoke. The palate has richness and density, showing a good balance between its acidity and fine tannins. It has a long and persistent finish.

Tapada de Coelheiros WHITE

Tapada de Coelheiros WHITE

A CLASSIC FROM ALENTEJO

Tapada de Coelheiros white is made from Arinto and Roupeiro that come from Vinha da Sobreira. It was first produced in 1995 and it is recognized for its elegance, unctuosity and aging potential.

Grapes are harvested in the morning and sent to the cold room in order to maintain freshness and preserve natural aromas. The fermentation starts in stainless steel tanks. The wine ages for 8 months in 500L barrels with bâtonnage.

AROMA AND PALATE

The nose is complex with Roupeiro's distinctive tropical fruit, combined with Arinto's grapefruit notes and lime freshness. It is rich and unctuous on the palate and has a long and persistent finish.

TAPADA DE COELHEIROS RED

TAPADA DE COELHEIROS RED

A CLASSIC FROM ALENTEJO

Tapada de Coelheiros red is a historical wine that was first produced in 1991. Since the beginning, Cabernet Sauvignon has been an important part of the blend, and so it remains to this day, having become one of the icons of this variety in Portugal.

THE SEARCH FOR BALANCE

The wine originates in Vinha Leonilde, which was planted in 1982 in honor of D. Leonilde Silveira, for her dedication to the land, estate and region. The experience of several harvests and a better understanding of our soils allowed for the introduction of Alicante Bouschet, leading us to the current blend.

VINIFICATION

Each block is fermented separately in order to better express its singularity. It ages for 18 months in French barrels and 18 months in bottle.

AROMA AND PALATE

Powerful nose with black fruit notes involved in spices and tobacco. The intensity of Cabernet Sauvignon's freshness stands out in the mouth, followed by the silky texture of Alicante Bouschet, leading to an elegant and persistent finish.

Coelheiros Vinha do Taco

Coelheiros Vinha do Taco

A HISTORIC VINEYARD

Located between two lines of water and one of cork forest, Vinha do Taco, expresses a unique profile with a perfect exposure combined with granitic soils.

Vinha do Taco is produced only in years of exceptional quality and in limited quantities. It is a good example of the extraordinary aging potential of Coelheiros wines.

TERROIR

Vinha do Taco benefits from a southwest exposure and a granitic soil with good depth. It produces grapes with intense color. A late ripener with low yields, our Petit Verdot gives origin to wines that have good natural acidity and great aging potential.

VINIFICATION

The fermentation takes place in a stainless steel tank and the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. The wine is only released after five years of bottle aging.

AROMA AND PALATE

The nose has the characteristic Petit Verdot moss notes that are well integrated with the spices developed during barrel aging. The palate shows remarkable elegance with a vibrant acidity and a long and persistent finish.

GARRAFEIRA

GARRAFEIRA

THE ICON

Tapada de Coelheiros Garrafeira has always been, since the 90’s, a token of Alentejo’s and Coelheiros capacity to make wines with great longevity - one of this wine’s main characteristics and sign of greatness. Garrafeira is bottle aging at its finest, honoring our history and rewarding those who know great wines need and deserve time.

VINIFICATION

Each block is fermented separately in order to better express its singularity. It ages for 18 months in French barrels and 5 and a half yeard in bottle.

AROMA AND PALATE

Intense color. Aroma shows enormous depth and complexity, with pepper and nutmeg, macerated berries and moss. In the mouth the vigorous tannins stand out, tamed by time and solid structure. Rich and exquisite, with lots of freshness in the endless finish.
